How to manage email notifications in Backlog

Choose what email notifications you want to receive by setting general and project-specific preferences.

To access your email settings:

  • Go to your profile icon in the global navigation.
  • Select “Personal settings.”
  • Select “Email settings” from the menu on the left.

To set general preferences, select the “Notifications and reports” checkbox. You can further customize this by choosing:

  • Thread emails for issue, wiki, and Git notifications (Gmail only)
  • Weekly reports about issues and milestones including upcoming deadlines, completed issues, and stars received
  • HTML or plain text format (under “Advanced settings”)

Individual user email settings can be overwritten by the admin, and “Notifications and reports” is automatically disabled if Backlog is unable to deliver email notifications due to an incorrect email.

Under “Project preferences,” select “Get emails for all updates that mention me” to only get notifications if you’re mentioned or notified in an issue.

To set project-specific settings:

  • Make sure “Notifications and reports” is selected at the top of the page.
  • Select “Specify by activity or project.”
  • Select “Find and add projects” to add projects to your preferences.
  • Select the notifications you want to get for each specific project.

Projects you belong to but don’t add to your preferences will automatically follow your general email settings. The contents of email notifications is determined by your organization’s email security settings.
