Backlog 101: Project board

Manage projects with Kanban-style boards that help you visualize tasks and progress.

In this overview, we’ll go over:

  • Board components
  • Adding and editing issues
  • Organizing and updating your board

Board components

Each board features:

  • Filters for issue type, category, milestone, and assignee.
  • Status columns for each stage of your workflow. Statuses are set by default or reflect custom statuses.
  • Cards for each issue that can be dragged and dropped to columns based on their status. Click on a card to open the issue details.
  • A “+” icon in the “Open column” to add an issue directly to the board.

Adding and editing issues

To add an issue to the board, select the “+” icon in the “Open” column and enter a subject. The board’s add function isn’t available if you have custom mandatory issue fields.

To edit an issue, click the card in the board to open the issue details.

If an issue is overdue, a fire icon appears and will remain until the issue is “Closed” or the due date updated.

Organizing and updating your board

Help your team prioritize issues by placing issue cards in the order of importance within each column.

As an issue progresses, move the card to the next column using drag and drop to automatically update the status.
